The DirectX Diagnostic Tool is extremely helpful when troubleshooting various system issues. It tests your system hardware for compatibility with DirectX applications such as games. The DxDiag results will provide you with a pass/fail status for your hardware. Failure results will have a message explaining why it failed.
Make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX available from this link. It is also a good idea to update your sound and video drivers regularly. These drivers can be obtained from the manufacturer's website.
To run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, follow these instructions:
- Press and hold the Windows key and then press the R key on your keyboard. A Run dialogue box should appear.
- Type DxDiag in the box and click OK.
- Once you have loaded the Direct X Diagnostic Utility, click Save All Information. This will ask where you would like the DxDiag.txt file saved. Remember where you save it so that you can find it later to review.
If you are experiencing a technical issue, please use the Ask a Question tab to send the "DxDiag.txt" file to our Technical Support Team.
